Feb 14, 2003. We hypothesized that desaturation during a 6MWT would provide additional prognostic information regarding survival for patients with UIP and nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP) after accounting for demographic, physiologic, and radiographic features. The primary objective of this study was to compare the accuracy of the 2MWT to the 6MWT in detecting exercise-induced oxygen desaturation in patients with severe COPD. Twenty-six patients with COPD (age: 61 + 10 years, forced expired volume in one second: 37 + 10%) that were normoxemic at rest performed a 2MWT.
Results: In contrast to some of the quoted studies, we found that 6MWD is not the sole parameter to be relied upon in patients with IPF treated with pirfenidone containing regimes as it did not change significantly over 6 months' follow-up. Rather it was the baseline oxygen saturation and desaturation after 6MWT that carries.

Current Knowledge/Study Rationale: Sleep-disordered breathing has been recognized as a risk factor for worse outcome after stroke. We assessed the relationship between nocturnal oxygen desaturation using continuously monitored systemic saturation data in the stroke unit and early neurological deterioration, especially.
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive, life-threatening, interstitial lung disease of unknown etiology. The median survival of patients with IPF is only 2 to 3 years, yet some patients live much longer.
Oxygen saturation dropped progressively in the unanesthetized controls as they were being circumcised. Crying and increased intrathoracic pressure are believed to cause the desaturation.
Despite the controversy regarding the use of walked distance or oxygen desaturation for better correlation with pulmonary function or survival data, recent studies have demonstrated the efficacy of using the 6MWT to evaluate the effectiveness of therapy in patients with interstitial lung diseases, pulmonary rehabilitation.
In patients with COPD, one of the most important adverse events during the 6MWT is oxygen desaturation, which can be more accurately assessed if there is continuous monitoring throughout the test. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the behavior of oxygen saturation curves throughout the 6MWT.

We conducted a 5 site cross-sectional study of stable patients with COPD and mild-to-moderate daytime hypoxemia (PaO2 56–69 mmHg). Nocturnal saturation was monitored using home oximetry on 2 occasions over a 2-week period. Patients were classified in 3 categories: (A) no significant nocturnal desaturation; (B).
Oct 27, 2016. The consistency of the null findings strengthens the overall conclusion that long- term supplemental oxygen in patients with stable COPD and resting or exercise- induced moderate desaturation has no benefit with regard to the multiple outcomes measured. Our data support the conclusions of earlier studies.
